Canadian 5ifth Scale Nationals July 18-20 – RC Buggy & Truck Racing

The First-ever Canadian 5ifth Scale Nationals July 18-20, 2014.  Walton Raceway adds one more class to its roster of events with the announcement of the 2014 Canadian 5ifth Scale Nationals this July 18-20 at Walton Raceway.  5ifth Scale (1/5 scale) Buggy and Truck Racers from across North America and even the Netherlands will be at Walton to compete in the classes of 4 Wheel Drive Truck, 2 Wheel Drive Buggy and 4 Wheel Drive Buggy with most classes showcasing both a Pro and Amateur Division.

In early May, a team led by former motocross racers, Tom Bitz and Steve Emery, began construction on a 1/5 Scale Off-Road RC Track south of the main gate.  Initially, it was to allow Walton Raceway to host events as part of the Ontario Fifth Scale Off-Road Championship Series, such as the event that transpired June 15th.  However, in late June, the Nationals were offered to Walton Raceway, and Bitz jumped on the opportunity.  “When we were given the chance to hold the Nationals at Walton, I was really excited.  It just makes sense; hosting the Nationals of 1/5 Scale at the same venue as the TransCan Nationals of Motocross.  It will be a great event, of course with a Walton twist.”

The 1/5 Scale Track features the longest straightaway in Eastern Canada, a massive bowl (to scale), major changes in elevation, wide lanes… plus motocross staples like a rhythm section, table top, “doubles” and more.

The event is managed by a group of RC and Event Enthusiasts from across Ontario.  While Bitz fills the role of Track Host, Gus Bakos of RC Acres Hamilton, one of the first to host 1/5 Scale Races of grand scale, offers his consultancy, Shane Simpson of Mississauga is Sponsor Liaison, and Joe Scully of Flesherton will be the Race Director.

This event has attracted international attention and is sponsored in part by SkyCraft Hobbies, TwoStrokeHobbies, Outerwears, LargeScaleRC, Great Hobbies, Venom/Atomik RC, Pro-Line, TGN Sales, Igloo Racing Products, BOCA Bearing, FullForceRC and Dave’s Discount Motors… and more sponsorships are rolling in daily.

Race Director Scully, whom was referred to as the “Dave Bell of RC” at his last visit to Walton Raceway said this of the up-coming Nationals, “…after one race, we’ve seen that this track is fast.  It’s challenging, and it makes for intense racing.  This track is probably one of the largest in North America for organized 1/5 Scale racing, for example, some of the tracks that host American Nationals could be transplanted into just Walton’s lower section.  With the field of racers we’re attracting, they’ll be treated to wow-factor, and we’re all prepared for wheel-to-wheel, full-throttle wide-open racing.”
